Malware is short for “malicious software” and is used as a term that covers many different threats. Examples of Malware are spyware, trojans, rootkits and viruses. Often Malware will make your computer slow or unusable but it is also possible for your computer to be infected without your knowing it. It is important to make sure your computer is clean of – and protected from – these threats. A computer virus can be just a big hassle or it can be a real security risk. Your identity and your data are at risk as well as that of the people you interact with via email, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
The main components of computer protection that you need to have right now are.
1) Anti-Virus software that automatically updates itself and scans your computer regularly.
2) Current security updates – primarily Windows updates but also others such as Adobe and Java.
3) A firewall.
4) Safe browsing habits.
